2024 SWIP Italia-Lex Academic Essay Prize Winner

We are happy to announce that the SWIP Italia–Lex Academic Essay Prize 2024, organised by SWIP Italia, in collaboration with Rivista di Estetica and Lex Academic is awarded to:

Eleonora Volta (University Vita-Salute San Raffaele) for her paper “From Silencing to Extracted Testimony in Trials for Gender-Based Violence: A Performative Approach to Ideological Oppression”.

The Essay Prize awards the best feminist philosophy essay authored either by an Italian woman philosopher or by a woman philosopher with an Italian affiliation. Volta’s essay will be published soon in Rivista di Estetica.

Volta graduated in Philosophy with honours from the Philosophy Department of the University of Milan (Università degli Studi di Milano) in 2021. She is currently a PhD student at the Faculty of Philosophy of the San Raffaele University (Milan) and works on the Philosophy of Language. Her main research interests lie in the field of Applied Philosophy of Language, Language and Law, and Feminist Philosophy. Her other interests include social epistemology, philosophy of gender, race, and sexuality, as well as political philosophy. Volta’s doctoral research focuses on capturing the ways in which distorting concepts based on sexist assumptions and identity prejudice can influence the conversational and epistemic context of criminal trials on gender-based violence.

SWIP Italia (Società italiana per le donne in filosofia) was founded in 2018 in Turin with the aim of promoting philosophy by women, supporting women philosophers, and resisting gender discrimination in academia.

Rivista di Estetica is one of the oldest philosophical journals in Italy, established in 1960 by Luigi Pareyson as a quarterly journal about aesthetics as well as more general philosophical themes. The journal practices double-blind refereeing and publishes both in Italian and English. The Editor-in-Chief is Tiziana Andina, Full Professor of Philosophy at the University of Turin. The journal is indexed by the following repositories: SCOPUS; Arts & Humanities Citation Index (AHCI); The Philosopher’s Index; Répertoire bibliographique de la philosophie; ERIH; Articoli italiani di periodici accademici (AIDA); Catalogo italiano dei periodici (ACNP); and Google Scholar. The open-access digital edition is available on Revues.org.
