Lex Academic recognizes the important contribution of dyslexic individuals to academic research and broader society. We believe that exceptionally promising dyslexic students deserve investment and support, helping them to realize the potential of their ideas. Following the success of the 2022, 2023, and 2024 Lex Academic Classics Scholarships, we are pleased to announce two new, highly competitive awards for Dyslexic Scholars in Philosophy and Art History. The scholarships are designed to recognize the important contribution of dyslexic individuals to academic research and broader society. Often meeting with discouragement in mainstream education, we believe that exceptionally promising dyslexic students deserve investment and support, giving them visibility and also helping them to realize the potential of their ideas.
The Lex Academic Classics Scholarship
Our flagship Classics award is granted annually to a student studying Classics (or a Classics-adjacent subject in another department) to postgraduate level. In addition to a bursary of £500, Lex Academic Scholars receive our five-star proofreading services gratis for their entire thesis.
To be eligible to apply for an award, you must have been diagnosed with dyslexia by an educational psychologist. You will need to supply evidence of your diagnosis, which will be treated with total confidence. Eligible candidates must also hold an offer of admission for a postgraduate degree with a thesis or extended project component. You may apply for an award if you have already begun your postgraduate degree. While there are no country restrictions for these awards, your thesis must be written (primarily) in English. Applicants should email the required proof to scholarships@lexacademic.com before the end of Saturday 1st March, 2025, alongside an abstract of their planned thesis and a brief statement about how the scholarship could help them. The panel aims to make a decision by Friday 27th June, 2025.
Last year’s Classics Scholarship was awarded to Leah Wild (Christ’s College, University of Cambridge) for her impressive ongoing doctoral research, Manufacturing miniaturisation: The making of miniature deities in the Greco-Roman world. Leah writes:
As a disabled academic, I face a double bind, whereby my work is held to the same standards as my peers and colleagues, as is only right in the struggle towards intellectual rigour, and yet, the outward trappings of this, like spelling, continue to elude me. This was compounded by my choice of field: Classics. The study of Greco-Roman antiquity requires proficiency in Latin and Ancient Greek. Your support, both financial and through access to your editorial services, will ensure that my work is judged on the quality of its content. Clarity of communication is important, and I recognise the need for spelling and grammar to be as accurate and precise as possible. With your help, I will be able to achieve all that I set out to do. The Lex Academic History of Art Scholarship
Lex Academic is delighted to introduce its newest scholarship for 2025, dedicated to supporting students pursuing History of Art / Art History at postgraduate level. This annual award is designed to champion academic excellence in the historical and critical study of visual art, offering a £500 bursary alongside our five-star proofreading services gratis for the recipient’s entire PhD thesis.
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must have been diagnosed with dyslexia by an educational psychologist and provide supporting documentation, which will be handled with the strictest confidence. Candidates must also hold an offer of admission for a postgraduate degree that includes a thesis or extended project component. Those who have already commenced their postgraduate studies are also welcome to apply. While this award is open to applicants worldwide, the thesis must be written primarily in English.
Applications should be submitted via email to scholarships@lexacademic.com by Wednesday 5th March, 2025. Applicants must include evidence of their dyslexia diagnosis, an abstract of their planned thesis, and a brief statement detailing how the scholarship would support their academic journey. The selection panel aims to announce the recipient by Monday 30th June, 2025.
