Editorial Manager

Are you PhD-educated and looking for an exciting role in an academic startup? We’re seeking someone driven by excellence to join our startup, Lex Academic. We’re a fast-growing global author services firm based in Chelsea, London. This role is for someone who shares our passion for exceptional academic research and our ethos of helping non-native academics worldwide improve their publishing prospects. We offer the best academic editing and translation services money can buy and our first hire needs to embody this vision, working directly with the CEO and COO (both Oxbridge-educated researchers) to capitalize on this exciting mission.

You will need to be extremely motivated, highly conscientious, and intuitive with outstanding written communication skills. We are looking for someone to join the startup founding team who will become a member of the Lex Academic family, adding exponential value to the company, and helping us deliver the highest quality editorial services internationally.

Required:

– A 10x’er who will add considerable value to the business and will be an integral, passionate member of the founding team, joining our CEO (Louise Chapman), COO (Constantine Sandis), and Chairman (Peter Redhead)

– Quality-controlling all editing projects (papers, monographs, indexes, translations)

– High-level proofreading, copy-editing, and translation knowledge and experience

– Updating the workflow and the management spreadsheet with jobs coming in and jobs completed

– Brainstorm, orchestrate, and deliver our viral content creation for the Lex Academic blog and YouTube

– Highly proficient in Adobe, MS Word, MS Excel, and Overleaf (the online LaTeX platform)

– Confident in networking and creating leads with prospective institutional partners and academic clients, both home and abroad

– Taking the initiative with business development and sales

Desirable:

– Modern and ancient languages desirable (esp. French, Italian, Mandarin, German; Latin and Ancient Greek)

– Educated to PhD level with a deep understanding of the academic research and publishing scene

Personal Assistant to the CEO

– Exceptional, business-like English and impeccable communication skills

– Paying freelancers through Wise and HSBC

– Keeping records of accounts receivable and accounts payable

– Keeping a record of jobs completed and associated payments (front- and back-end)

– Updating the workflow with jobs coming in and jobs completed

– Invoicing

– Liaising directly with the CEO, COO, and Editorial Manager

– Customer service (perfect communication, empathy, flexibility, and efficiency are essential)

– Brainstorm, orchestrate, and help to deliver our viral content creation for the Lex Academic blog and YouTube (hiring freelance video production; putting together briefs for forthcoming blog posts; seek PR opportunities with national and international press)

– Team player with excellent, novel ideas about social media strategy and inbound marketing

Highly desirable:

– Several modern languages to process foreign university invoices and purchase orders (French, German, Italian, Mandarin)

– Educated to MA level with a deep understanding of the academic research and publishing scene
